Ovens
Single Oven - One oven space; usually combining an oven and grill in one compartment, (oven and grill may not be use at the same time). Single ovens can be sited at eye level in a tall oven housing or under the worktop in a single oven housing.
Built-In Double Oven - An oven with two cavities which may also have a combined grill, (oven and grill may not be used at the same time). Usually fitted into a tall oven housing, or alcove.
Built-Under Double Oven - A double oven has two cooking cavities and is fitted under a kitchen worktop.
Fan Oven/Fan Assisted Oven - Has a fan built in to the oven cavity to ensure there is an even spread of heat throughout the oven. Even distribution of heat usually reduces cooking time; food is cooked evenly and allows for batch baking.
Conventional Oven - An oven without a fan, heat is produced from elements at the top and bottom of the cavity or at both sides. Oven is usually hotter at the top and cooler at the bottom.
Multifunction Oven - A single oven complete with multiple functions; having the options of a conventional oven, fan- assisted oven, grill or fan-assisted grill, and therefore offers more versatile cooking options.
Pyroclean - A cleaning process which heats the oven to 500 degrees C and burns off deposits caused by roasting, baking, and grilling.
Hydro-Clean - An aid for cleaning the oven, designed for softening greasy residue. Water and washing up liquid are poured into the base of the oven, the oven is then heated to 60 degrees C, producing steam from the water to loosen any grease deposits.
Hobs
Ceramic - Ceramic hobs use radiant heat from below the surface.
Halogen - Halogen hobs use strong halogen light and radiant heat from below the cooking surface to generate heat.
Induction - Induction hobs have an electro-magnetic coil positioned below the ceramic cooking surface. After switch on the coil causes an induction field which heats the pan placed on the surface. Heat is transferred directly to the pan, but the hob itself does not get hot. Pans used must be made from ferrous metal i.e. if a magnet sticks the pan is suitable.
Flame Failure - A feature designed to close off the gas supply in the event that flame is extinguished. New regulations state that FSD hobs must be fitted in multi occupancy housing i.e. flats/apartments/maisonettes etc.
Wok Burner – An additional ring fitted to many hobs featuring a high speed gas burner.
LPG Gas – Liquid Petroleum Gas is usually transported to a property and stored in steel bottles on site. Hobs must have LPG jets fitted in order to function.
Extractors
Canopy - An extractor designed to be installed into an artificial chimney or feature.
Chimney - An extractor usually fitted as a feature above a hob or cooker.
Corner - Designed to fit into the corner of a room above the hob.
Designer - A range of sleek and easy to clean extractors designed to be quieter and more efficient.
Downdraft - Sleek, super efficient extractors designed to be integrated into the work surface, can be raised to the preferred height, and then will slide away to worktop level when not required.
Geometric - A range of stylish and angular extractors designed for futuristic kitchens.
Integrated - Installed between two units, and concealed by adding co-ordinating door furniture on the front.
Island - Designed to be installed above a hob situated in an island unit.
Venting - The most efficient way of dealing with steam and cooking odours is to vent to an outside source
Charcoal Filters - When venting is not possible. The fitting of charcoal filters helps to purify the air prior to it re-entering the room via a vent in the extractor, these filters are disposable and dependent upon usage can last between 3 and 6 months.
Microwaves
Built-In - Microwave oven designed to be built into a fitted kitchen, usually with a frame kit to add clean lines to the edges.
Combination -Microwave technology combined with a convection heating source and grill.
Refrigeration
Built-In - Appliances installed into a tall kitchen unit, and designed to take co-ordinating kitchen doors.
Built-Under - Appliances installed under a kitchen worktop, and designed to take co-ordinating kitchen doors.
Monobloc - A Fridge Freezer with a single compressor, for installation into a tall kitchen unit and designed to take co-ordinating kitchen doors.
Freestanding - Fridges, freezers and fridge freezers designed as stand-alone units, or sited under a work surface.
Dishwashers
Fully Integrated - Dishwasher installed into a kitchen unit and designed to take co-ordinating kitchen doors, with a concealed control panel.
Semi-Integrated - Dishwasher installed with a visible control panel fitted behind a drawer line door.
Aqua Stop – Designed with leakage protection; inlet and outlet hoses are protected if a leak occurs. An independent safety valve will also prevent additional water entering the dishwasher.
Laundry
Reduced Iron - Spins at intervals and gently tumbles the load during the spinning cycle. A gentle rotating action at the end of the spin keeps laundry separate and fluffy.
Reduced Time - A time and energy saving function which reduces wash time by 30-40%.
Time Delay - Allows the wash time to be delayed enabling offering more convenience and use of cheap rate electricity.
Wash Capacity - The amount of dry washing which can be washed in a single load.
Condenser Dryer - Requires no outside venting, a container within the machine collects the water which is then emptied.
Miscellaneous
Dual Fuel - A term applied to appliances which use both gas and electricity, in most cases the hob is gas and the oven and grill electric.
Watts - The way in which power is measured within an electric appliance, the higher the watt the more powerful the appliance.
Energy Rating - Appliances are rated from ‘A’ to ‘G’ (with ‘A’ being the most efficient) depending upon how energy efficient they are.
Cold Fill Only - Refers to dishwashers and washing machines; water is filled from the cold water supply and the appliance heats the water to temperature required.
Fuzzy Logic - Appliances with fuzzy logic employ sensor technology to continually monitor varying conditions inside the appliance, the appliance then adjust itself accordingly to ensure optimum efficiency.
